The Mine

What would you do if you found yourself suddenly back in US 1941, just before the war and Pearl Harbor? I’d freak out, there is no way I could live without the internet! Or credit cards, Or mobile phones, Or …. well you get it. Joel however, takes things in his stride, managing to get adopted into a family, meeting not one but four lovely young women, dating two of them and winning a bucket load of cash at the bookies. Well wouldn’t you take advantage if you knew the race outcome already, or the lottery numbers?
Joel is a remarkably believable character, he is developed slowly throughout, ensuring that the reader gets a good grasp on his character and foibles. He seems to be genuine and friendly, although I thought he was a bit of a cad at one point. Gilly was another character I liked, she has a very strong character and won’t let anyone tread on her, definitely takes few prisoners.
So overall, this is a slow, steady story, developing at just the right speed, exciting, suspenseful and one any romantic will enjoy. I did.
